Ceramic Portraiture- Handbuilding I
A project in Handbuilding I, an introductory level course for students to learn the basics of hand building techniques in clay including but not limited to pinching, coiling, and slab building.
Students were tasked to look at ceramic busts and portraits from both historical and contemporary sources. Then students were asked to take selfies, study their own anatomy, and then build a 3/4 life-sized ceramic bust based on their likeness using pinching and coiling techniques. Students then used cold surfacing techniques to decorate the surface.
